The Whitestone Resort, a 31-acre ranch estate in Muskoka, Canada, will go to auction with no reserve next week.
The lakefront property’s impressive 13,352 square feet of living space includes 15 bedrooms and 16 full bathrooms in total, according to Concierge Auctions, which is handling the online sale on Dec. 10.
The resort, built in 2000, was the cornerstone of Whitestone Lake for many years, serving as a “beautiful venue for lunches and dinners, weddings and events,” said listing agent Matt Smith, who’s working with Concierge on the sale. The property was transformed into a private estate when the current owners, Tennessee-born singer-songwriter David Vaters and his family, purchased it in 2015 for an undisclosed price.
“We spent years creating this custom-designed home that is a once-in-a-lifetime investment for the buyer to enjoy for many generations to come,” Mr. Vaters said in a statement. “This property has so much to offer as it can be a secluded family compound or a functioning resort once again.
The Vaters family carried out a multimillion-dollar renovation and repair, bringing in renowned Texan interior designer Cindy King to complete the space, all of which factor in greatly to the most recent listing price of C$9.8 million (US$7.68 million), Mr. Smith said.
“The Vaters family have used the estate as both their Canadian residence and a venue to host their parties, with a who’s who guest list of business moguls, politicians and musicians from all over North America,” Mr. Smith said.
The renovation was so extensive that the walls are the only remaining element of the original property, with everything else being either new or reworked, from floors and fireplaces to ceiling beams and balconies. The bar area was revamped, and the lake patio and kitchen are new, as is the barn. Additionally, environmentally sustainable features such as a solar generator, a manual all-weather water pump and drainage on the beach were all installed. Three years worth of cut, dried and stacked wood will also be included with the sale.
Beyond the private beach on the property sits Whitestone Lake, home to some exclusive residential properties in excess of C$2 million, Mr. Smith said. Named for the snow-white outcropping of limestone that marks the intersection of the lake’s two main bodies, the Whitestone Municipality is ideal for any form of water-based activity across its many lakes and rivers, while hiking and snowmobile trails provide year-round opportunities for outdoor recreation.
